About Delia Pring

Artist & Author

Delia Pring is an artist and writer based in East Devon. She creates intuitive abstract paintings that hold feelings, memories and quiet moments, working in layers of colour and texture until the painting shows her where it wants to go. Her work is original, never replicated in prints, and made from reclaimed and overlooked materials.

Delia has always been creatively driven. After returning to East Devon she committed fully to an artistic practice, drawing on a life shaped by different creative disciplines.

She spent years working as a tattoo artist before ill health brought that chapter to a close. That transition, though difficult, opened the door to a broader creative life. In 2019 she completed a creative writing master's degree and has since been published in multiple publications. Writing and painting are not separate practices for Delia. They inform each other, both concerned with memory, place and the things that are easy to overlook.

When the opportunity came to commit to painting full time, Delia brought all of it with her: the mark-making, the storytelling, the collecting of ideas like a magpie.

Delia's Work

Delia does not work towards a preconceived goal. She starts with a feeling, a colour, or a mark, and follows the painting through multiple layers until something true emerges. Because of this she has chosen not to settle into a singular style. The work shifts, and that is intentional.

Her paintings explore memory, place and quiet moments. Some are bold. Some are quieter. All of them are made for people who want more from their walls than something that just matches the sofa.

She collects ideas constantly, translating them onto paper and canvas through expressive mark-making, layered colour, and an intuitive process that lets each piece arrive in its own time.

Why low waste matters

Delia is committed to low waste art. She works with discontinued wallpaper, old paint testers, the dregs of spray paint, found tools and other materials that would otherwise be thrown away.

This is not a workaround. It is a deliberate choice rooted in a genuine question: why are artists conditioned to believe that only the best new materials are worthy of display? Raw materials are a precious commodity and waste is abundant. Recycling and repurposing should be at the forefront of artistic practice, not an afterthought.

Delia believes beauty and creativity should not be confined to those who have access to the best products. Her work celebrates what is available, without embarrassment.
